It’s Val Blair and Alan Meade’s wedding day, and a lot of people are unhappy. One in particular is Jenny Meade, the loving aunt who raised the groom (and is rumored to have special “powers”). The problem is that the bride-to-be is a bitch.
About fifteen minutes before the ceremony is to begin, Aunt Jenny and Val have a nasty argument, and Jenny decides to save her nephew from a life of misery by casting a spell over his bride-to-be. The well-chosen spell turns Val into a real bitch – a female dog – with no hope of returning to her human form until she learns the true meaning of kindness, humility, and love. Practically everyone at the wedding is convinced that the bride’s disappearance is due to cold feet, while Val (in dog form) is left to figure out how to manage life as a canine.
While still in dog form, Val falls in love with her newly acquired, handsome master, Daniel. After a few months, Daniel brings home a girlfriend, and Val becomes the pet from hell – doing everything she can to sabotage Daniel’s love life. Finally Daniel’s girlfriend has had enough and issues the ultimatum – “the dog or me.” As Val witnesses her master’s emotional turmoil over his decision, she realizes she has an important decision to make of her own.
