Peter CB Masterson has been surrounded by the film business his whole life. He is the son of Director/Film Maker Peter Masterson, who has directed such films as The Trip to Bountiful and The Only Thrill. His mother is Carlin Glynn, an accomplished actress – winner of a Tony Award and an Olivier Award for Best Actress in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, (which his father co-wrote and directed). Peter’s sister, actress Mary Stuart Masterson, has starred in over 25 feature films, including, Fried Green Tomatoes, Benny and Joon, and Some Kind of Wonderful.
Peter’s exposure to the film business started early on, as he assumed the role of the assistant to the director, when his father was working. This exposure allowed Peter to gain an extensive base of knowledge from which to build. Peter’s father is an actor’s director, and Peter has worked closely with actors his whole life - from summers at the Sundance Film Lab to improvisational groups in New York City. Peter has a fundamental respect for acting that is very apparent in his Directorial debut, West of Here, a feature film starring Mary Stuart Masterson and Josh Hamilton.
Having worked closely with his father on several movies, Peter felt intrigued by and drawn to the camera. He joined the International Cinematographer’s Guild in 1994 and has been working steadily behind the camera ever since. He took a brief respite to direct and shoot his debut film, West of Here, and since then has been shooting small projects and operating camera on big budget movies in New York. In addition, Peter has shot a feature film entitled Whiskey School, and currently he is the cinematographer on the film The Cake Eaters, starring Tom Cavanaugh. As the film’s director he is involved in the ongoing development of The 26th Man, a baseball film about minor league manager Ed Nottle, slated to shoot next spring. For Peter, Ed Nottle’s story holds a plethora of interesting, funny, and heart-warming moments. He looks forward to transcribing Ed’s story to the screen.
In addition, Peter works out of his home editing for small independent features, and short films.
